2. Always wear gloves.


3. Needles and sharps should be handled with care, and handling kept to a minimum.


4. Users of needles or other sharps are responsible for their disposal.


5. Never re-sheath, bend or break needles before disposal.


6. Dispose of syringes and needles as a unit.


7. Never carry used sharps or re-use equipment.


8. Sharps disposal containers must be available at the point of use.


9. Discard sharps containers when three-quarters full.


10. Never clear areas where sharps may be present without hand protection.
