Usage Requirements of Cryovial Tube
Best Practices for Filling, Storing, and Thawing Cryovials
Filling
When you fill your cryovial you should ensure that you do not overfill since there is expansion on freezing; hence fill up until around 75-80% capacity of your vial. Maintain sterility at all stages of the operation.
Storing
To reduce the risk of cross-contamination and exposure to liquid nitrogen, which can cause vial explosion upon rapid warming, cryovials are stored in vapor phase liquid nitrogen rather than in liquid phase. Store vials in a well-labeled and indexed storage system for easy retrieval.
Thawing
Thaw cryovials by moving them rapidly from the cryogenic storage to a 37°C water bath. This prevents ice crystals from forming that may damage cellular structures. Samples should be processed immediately after thawing or transferred to appropriate media to keep their viability.
