A syringe needle is a part of a medical device that is typically used to inject liquid medications or other substances into the body's tissues, such as under the skin, into a muscle, or into a vein.
Essential Safety & Hygiene Principles (MUST DO):
- Wash Your Hands: Thoroughly with soap and water before handling any supplies.
- Use Sterile Equipment: Needles and syringes must be new, single-use, and from a sealed sterile package. NEVER SHARE needles or syringes.
- Clean the Injection Site: Wipe the skin with an alcohol swab and let it air dry.
- Avoid Touch: Do not touch the needle, the rubber stopper of the medication vial, or the cleaned skin after disinfection.
- Proper Disposal: Place used needles/syringes immediately into a designated Sharps Container. Do not recap, bend, or break the needle. Never dispose in regular trash.
